Bayern Munich want to sign a wide player this summer to bolster Vincent Kompany’s options. The club has identified Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon as their primary target.

Reports in Germany and England over the last few days have confirmed Bayern’s concrete interest in Gordon. It does look like the English winger can imagine himself leaving Newcastle United in the summer.

According to The Daily Telegraph in the UK, Gordon is ready to consider offers to leave Newcastle United. It does look like the Tyneside club will not play in Europe next season. They may have to reluctantly accept offers for some of their star players to comply with the financial rules of the Premier League.

The English report on Gordon confirms that Newcastle United will not offer any discount on Gordon. The Premier League side will only entertain offers close to £80 million for the English forward. Newcastle United received a Premier League record fee for Alexander Isak from Liverpool last summer, highlighting their strength in negotiating big fees for their key players.

It remains to be seen how much Bayern are ready to spend on Gordon. They are unlikely to reach the figure of £80 million (€92 million) for the English winger. Newcastle had paid a fee close to £45 million to sign Gordon from Everton in 2023. The Bavarian club will hope Gordon’s desire to leave Newcastle can help them to significantly bring down the fee.

Bayern have enjoyed success with transfers from the Premier League

It is not surprising to see Bayern showing interest in Gordon. He has excelled for Newcastle United this season. The English forward has scored 17 goals and provided four assists across all competitions for the Tyneside club.

Die Roten have been tracking Gordon closely since his days in the academy at Everton. Moreover, Bayern have enjoyed great success with the signings from the Premier League in the last three summer transfer windows.

Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Luis Diaz have been outright successes for Bayern since arriving from the Premier League. Gordon is a fast and tricky winger with a knack for scoring goals at a good rate. His qualities and skill set can certainly help him to be a success in the Bundesliga.

Die Roten have not hesitated to break the bank for Kane, Olise, and Diaz. They may follow the same approach for Gordon as long as they reach an agreement with the winger.

Apart from a wide player, Bayern are expected to sign a midfielder and a couple of full-backs in the summer transfer window.
