Bayern Munich played their second pre-season friendly on Thursday as they hosted Tottenham Hotspur in the 2025 Telekom Cup at the Allianz Arena. Five days earlier, in the first pre-season friendly, Bayern edged Olympique Lyonnais 2-1 at the same venue.

Against Lyon, Vincent Kompany fielded a somewhat experimental starting XI, giving starts to Sacha Boey alongside youngsters Tom Bischof, Lennart Karl, and Paul Wanner. However, against Tottenham, Kompany fielded what looked like his strongest possible XI amongst the available players.

Despite a lot of profligacy in front of the goal, Bayern completely dominated the game en route to a commanding victory. Harry Kane opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a superb left-footed shot from just inside the box after being brilliantly picked out by Michael Olise with a long-range pass from near the halfway line. Quite surprisingly, and rather ironically, two minutes later, against his former club, Kane missed his first penalty in a Bayern shirt. In the second half, the German Champions put the Europa League Champions to the sword courtesy of three more beautiful strikes from Kingsley Coman, and teenage substitutes Lennart Karl and Jonah Kusi-Asare.

Overall, Bayern outshot Tottenham 26-6. Notwithstanding the undesirable profligacy, let’s now take a look at some mainly very positive takeaways from Bayern’s impressive 4-0 victory.
