The highest of highs and the lowest of lows for Luis Diaz

Despite scoring the winner, Luis Diaz left a controversial performance on the pitch yesterday. He had Bayern fans screaming and scratching their heads when he wasted numerous chances in the first half and early in the second half.

He seemed slow on the ball, cautious with his dribbles and unclinical with his finish. Diaz often took way more touches than he needed before taking the shot. Those slight delays helped Real defenders close out to the shot and shut down the goalscoring opportunity.

For example, he was through on goal after Jamal Musiala's pass, facing Andriy Lunin in a one-on-one situation, but bobbled the football, which led to it being tackled away. It felt like he was hesitant to tuck it in with a first-time finish, which had given him the goal in the first leg.

However, Diaz came clutch at the end of the game. In the 89th minute, he suddenly became clinical again. Two touches before slapping it authoritatively, giving Lunin no chance.

The polarising performance of Luis Diaz within a game has been a topic for Bayern's front three since the beginning of the season. He can be wasteful, but always comes up with big goals.

However, it looks quite evident that Diaz might face some physical issues playing almost every game available this season, as he did not display a similar level of dribbling against Real Madrid. Bayern might want to try to address this by giving him a rest before the deciding stage of the season.
