The most mature Bayern Munich performance of the season
Whenever Bayern enters the pitch this season, the audience expects a fast-paced, attacking-minded playstyle that has become a signature of Kompany's team. They expect to see Bayern dominate possession, create loads of chances and try to smash their opponents to pieces with four or five goals, while also being leaky on the opposite end.
This attacking playstyle has brought a lot of success for the club. However, it did not happen in the Pokal final against Stuttgart.
Bayern was very stern defensively and played at a much slower tempo than what fans were used to seeing. The team also played in a much more compact shape and a lower defensive line than usual.
Thanks to this setup, there was little to no moment when Bayern had to face counter-attacks with numerical disadvantage.
This practical strategy is what many fans wanted to see Vincent Kompany implement at the end of this season, to be more compact defensively and approach the game with a balanced consideration of attack and defence.
Plus, playing more cautiously does not mean Bayern gave up more on offence. The team scored three today and created numerous attacking chances.
This game not only won Bayern the cup but also showed massive potential and vision of what this club can become with a more mature mindset in big games.
