Spectacular breakthrough of Lennart Karl and superb fit of Luis Diaz

Whilst Kane and Olise have consistently been the top performers in the attacking half, they were well supported by Serge Gnabry, Luis Diaz and Lennart Karl.

Gnabry experienced a resurgence in his career during the early part of the season when he played as the number ten. The veteran German forward scored a few impressive goals and provided some neat assists.

However, without diminishing Gnabry’s role, Bayern’s sustained attacking prowess to date was largely due to the exploits of Lennart Karl and Luiz Diaz.

Vincent Kompany did a decent job of easing Karl into the mix, and the 17-year-old seized the opportunity with open arms. More often than not, Karl displayed the poise of a veteran when given the chance. He provided both assists and goals, and set a record for being the youngest player to score in three consecutive Champions League games.

Meanwhile, Diaz established himself as the undisputed starter at left wing. With 13 goals in 22 matches across all competitions, Lucho has apparently not been negatively affected by the concerns over his age and hefty price tag.

Diaz has been a clear upgrade over his predecessors at left wing. Minus the occasional missed 1v1 sitter, Lucho has won over the fans and his teammates by being a difference maker, not just with his spectacular and timely goals but also with his work ethic and pressing abilities.
