Defensive lapses
With Bayern having enjoyed 79% ball possession and limited Wiesbaden to just two shots on goal, it was most disappointing to see the third-tier side score with their only attempts on goal.
Considering the level of the opposition, and with one eye on the upcoming trip to Augsburg three days later, no one can argue with Kompany and his choice of squad rotation against Wiesbaden.
However, the full-back pair of Sacha Boey and Raphael Guerreiro didn’t cover themselves in glory, despite combining to win the penalty from which Kane opened the scoring. Late in the second half, Boey and Guerreiro were replaced by the regular starters- Laimer and Stanisic.
In central defense, Kim Min-jae started in place of Dayot Upamecano alongside Jonathan Tah. The German defender was at fault for the first goal conceded due to poor marking. Kim has to take some blame for the second, as he seemingly misjudged the trajectory of the ball and allowed the attacker to flick on a header in the build-up, which led to the second goal. Ironically, the South Korean defender was Die Roten’s best defender on the night amongst the starting back four.
