Amidst the gloom still a good showing from Bayern

Whilst Vincent Kompany may still have his critics, his game plan, though not perfect, wasn’t bad. Having trusted Stanisic to start at left-back and Musiala to start as the number ten, there’s no way he could have predicted losing them both to injury during the course of the match.

Manuel Neuer pulled off a couple of brilliant saves to keep Bayern in the match. Early on Kingsley Coman looked menacing in attack. Whilst Harry Kane didn’t have one of his better days, he did appear to give it his all in the absence of Musiala in the second half by working hard off the ball despite the turnover which led to the second goal.

In reality, a lack of depth and fatigue finally caught up to Bayern, and it was compounded by the injuries to Musiala and Stanisic. After the departure of those two players, Bayern were always likely to come out second best. It’s no fluke that PSG won the Champions League.
