Is the Club World Cup worth it?

Before the start of the tournament, the Club World Cup had received its fair share of criticism. A major criticism was that the already packed football schedule would now be even more demanding on players, and the likelihood of injuries would escalate at a time when players would be expecting to recuperate and regenerate in the company of family and loved ones.

Musiala’s injury is not the only serious one suffered in the tournament to date. It’s no secret that Bayern had their eyes on the trophy and the prize money to fund incoming transfers over the summer.

However, with the loss of Musiala, Bayern’s top brass now faces even greater personnel challenges than before the start of the tournament. Bayern started last season with numerous players sidelined due to injury. With Musiala now joining Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito on the long-term injury list ahead of the 2025/26 season, it’s another undesirable case of déjà-vu.
