No Harry Kane, no party
Although Bayern got the victory, it was nearly impossible to penetrate Freiburg's penalty area without a proper goalscoring threat like Harry Kane.
Early in the match, Kompany used Stanisic as the target man inside the box. It stirred up the opposition's organised defence, but Bayern really struggled when the element of surprise vanished. No proper chance in the first 80 minutes of the game until they decided to take long shots, as those were probably the easier way to find the goal than trying to attack the tall defenders.
Without a proper striker, Bayern wingers were hesitant to cross the ball. Freiburg defenders also did not have to worry about marking too centrally. Therefore, they could tighten the outside space with Luis Diaz and Lennart Karl, causing all sorts of trouble for these two to find dribbling lanes.
Bayern would really struggle against Real Madrid without Harry Kane, who not only helps with the build-up but also is the recipient of the dangerous balls inside the box. At least it will be a bit better with Nicolas Jackson back in service. But again, he does not have Harry Kane's gravitational pull.
