Following a heartbreaking defeat against PSG in the Champions League semifinals, Bayern Munich travelled to Volkswagen Arena to face relegation-threatened Wolfsburg in the penultimate matchday of the Bundesliga.
Unlike the first meeting this season at the Allianz Arena, when Bayern thrashed The Wolves 8-1, this game was much closer. The home side created several good chances in the first half, including a close-range header from Vinicius Souza, but they were all nullified by Bayern's defence. The biggest talking point in the first half was the penalty miss by Harry Kane. A collector's item, as that was his only Bundesliga miss from 12 yards out this season.
Bayern Munich redeemed themselves defensively in the second half. The team found a bit more groove offensively with the introduction of Konrad Laimer on the right flank. The Austrian was also involved in Bayern's only goal of the game, passing to Michael Olise in the 56th minute. The Frenchman cut inside and delivered a trademark curler to claim three points, going back to Munich.
