After failing to win on the previous two Bundesliga matchdays, Bayern Munich registered a much-needed 5-1 victory over third-placed Hoffenheim at the Allianz Arena on matchday 21.
Hoffenheim were expected to present a stern test to the reigning Bundesliga Champions as they came into the game as the only team in the Bundesliga to have won all their matches played in 2026 (5/5) and with the second most potent offense in the Bundesliga.
However, in the 17th minute, Hoffenheim were reduced to ten men when defender Kevin Akpoguma was given his marching orders for what appeared to be a last-man foul on Luiz Diaz in the box. After Harry Kane gave Bayern the lead from the resultant spot kick, the Bavarian giants would have been expected to blow the opposition out of the water. However, the final score of 5-1 was somewhat flattering to Bayern. Based on how the game unfolded, it was a lot closer than the final score suggests. Starting with the positives, let’s take a look at some interesting takeaways from Sunday’s 5-1 victory.
