Leon Goretzka struggling for form

One of the contributing factors to the relative success of Stuttgart during the first half was the inability of Bayern’s midfield double pivot of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka to exert sufficient influence on proceedings.

However, things changed just after the hour mark when Vincent Kompany replaced Goretzka with Aleksandar Pavlovic. Whilst Bayern showed a collective improvement against Stuttgart compared to the previous five games, little credit could be given to Goretzka, who was once again highly ineffective in his role.

Based on the excellent development of Pavlovic so far this season and the lack of consistency from Goretzka, it’s difficult to envision the veteran midfielder continuing at the club beyond the duration of his current contract, which expires in June.
