Case for VAR to be implemented in every game

Without taking anything away from Luis Diaz for drawing Bayern level, the truth is that on another day and in another competition, his goal would have been chalked off for offside. That isn’t to say that there is any reason to believe that Die Roten wouldn’t have achieved the victory on the night.

However, as is the case in many of the other top European Leagues, the football governing body in Germany has decided, for various reasons, not to implement the use of VAR in the early rounds of the domestic cup competition.

The sheer volume of matches in the early rounds of the competition and the lack of technological infrastructure in older stadiums would no doubt be contributing factors to the decision. However, it’s safe to point out that Bayern fans would prefer not to have such a goal as a negative talking point. Despite the mixed feelings about VAR, it’s here to stay, so let’s hope that by next year around this time, it becomes fully implemented.
