Courtesy of a 4-1 win over Koln, at the RheinEnergieStadion on Wednesday, Bayern Munich advanced to the third round of the DFB-Pokal competition.

The final scoreline was somewhat flattering because the hosts got off to a brighter start. Koln striker Ragnar Ache sent the home fans into a state of jubilation in the 31st minute when he headed home a corner kick. However, the celebration didn’t last long as five minutes later, Luis Diaz tapped in the equalizer after Koln goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler spilled a shot from Josip Stanic.

Koln continued to battle, but Harry Kane then completed another brilliant brace with a goal in each half before Michael Olise added gloss to the scoreline by finishing off a sweeping counterattack.

From a highly entertaining and fast-paced game let’s take a look at some mostly positive takeaways.

Jonas Urbig acquitted himself well

Following the clean sheet in last Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Monchengladbach, Jonas Urbig got his second consecutive start in goal for Die Roten and once again didn’t disappoint with his performance.

Early on, Koln surprisingly had Bayern pegged back. Before taking the lead, the home team drew three top-notch saves from Urbig. Unfortunately, just past the half-hour mark, there was nothing Urbig could have done to prevent the goal after Ache outjumped Upamecano to head the ball into the net.

Apart from being beaten by Ache, the 22-year-old shot-stopper had a fine evening between the sticks.  Urbig made six saves, with five of the attempts on his goal coming from inside the box. The young man is nearing a state of readiness to replace the great Manuel Neuer.
