Second-half resurgence
After the horrible first-half display, it would not have been unreasonable to chalk the match off as ‘a bad day at the office’. However, based on the turnaround in the second half, one can only conclude that Vincent Kompany’s half-time talk lit a fire under his players' bellies, with Eric Dier, Michael Olise, and Leroy Sané leading the charge. In addition to Boey, these three players had been particularly disappointing in the first half.
Dier was much improved on defense in the second half, and when he headed in Bayern’s first goal, he looked more like the suspended Harry Kane than a center-back. In a space of less than 60 seconds after the hour mark, Olise created a goal for Eric Dier and scored one to bring Bayern level with RB Leipzig in the game.
With seven minutes left in regulation time, Sané appeared to have secured the victory and the Bundesliga title when he gave his team the lead with a blistering shot from the right side of the box. In a match that ebbed and flowed, Leipzig’s late equalizer was a tough pill to swallow, but the Bavarian faithful can be proud of Bayern’s second-half performance.
