Poor defensive performance- Work to do

Even though Bayern got the win on Saturday, they once again failed to keep a clean sheet. They conceded another goal from a set-piece as Nico Schlotterbeck managed to beat his marker to score Dortmund’s first goal.

Since the turn of the year, Bayern have managed to keep three clean sheets in 12 games across all competitions. In the Bundesliga, they have kept only one clean sheet in the Bundesliga.

Kompany’s men have consistently conceded cheap goals, which leads to a shift in the momentum of the game. The game against Dortmund was no different. Bayern were playing on the front foot in the first half. Poor defending on a set piece ensured Die Rotens struggled to wrestle back the momentum.

The defending Bundesliga champions also conceded the second goal at the worst possible time. Die Roten were fortunate that Kimmich came clutch with the winner. With crucial games in the Champions League approaching, Bayern need to arrest the defensive slump and start racking up clean sheets to have a strong chance of winning the treble. There is no doubt about the quality of Die Roten’s attack, but they may have an off day. A resolute defense will ensure that Bayern are still getting positive results on days when attacking players are not firing on all cylinders.
