Return of Alphonso Davies

Bayern fans would have been smiling on Tuesday when Alphonso Davies rose from the bench to make his long-awaited return from injury. With the game in the bag, Davies replaced one of the stars for Bayern on the evening, Serge Gnabry, in the 88th minute.

Even though it was just a cameo appearance from the Canadian national team captain, it was in effect a sign of greater things to come from a team that is already doing well.

When the Roadrunner returns to full fitness, Bayern’s high press will instantly become more effective thanks to the recovery speed of Davies. His presence will also fortify both wings in both defense and attack because having both Davies and Ito to man the left-back position will allow Laimer to focus on the right flank, where he and Olise form a deadly combination. For the new year, Bayern fans can look forward to another deadly combination on the left in the shape of Diaz and Davies.
