Lennart Karl- the breakout youth player not just in Germany
A year ago, 17-year-old Lennart Karl was a member of Bayern’s under-17 squad. On Tuesday, he set a new Champions League record as the youngest player in history to score in three consecutive games.
Prior to his fantastic strike against Sporting, with his confidence and scintillating play, he was already considered the breakout youth player in Germany this season. Having set a new record on Tuesday, the rest of Europe has even more reason to take notice of the teenage sensation.
At a time when most 17-year-olds are being asked to focus on end-of-term exams, Lennart Karl’s name is being mentioned for inclusion in the senior national team ahead of next year’s World Cup. Some football pundits have also been unable to resist the comparison between the teenager with the stunning left foot and the great Lionel Messi. Talk about a breakout season.
