Injury gods not to be taken for granted.
Three days prior to the trip to Koln, Josip Stanisic suffered an ankle injury against Wolfsburg which will reportedly keep him on the sidelines for three weeks.
In the cathedral city against Koln, Harry Kane and Hiroki Ito were both able to carry on after injury scares. However, Konrad Laimer wasn’t as fortunate. Bayern’s Austrian army knife tore a muscle fibre in his left calf against Koln and as a result could be out of action for up to four weeks.
With Bayern scheduled to play every three to four days for the remainder of January, Vincent Kompany has his work cut out in terms of replacing his two preferred right-backs.
Conclusion
Bayern remain unbeaten in the Bundesliga with an 11-point lead atop the standings but the injury bug has struck again during the first two games of Ruckrunde. Fortunately, neither of the two new injuries are projected as long term. Nonetheless, in light of the void at right-back, Vincent Kompany now has to get extra creative with his squad rotation for Bayern to remain unbeaten in 2026.
