Konrad Laimer still Bayern’s best option at right-back

As the game wore on in the second half, the home team appeared to get stronger whilst the visitors grew weaker. This occurrence had a lot to do with Vincent Kompany’s substitutions. The Belgian coach’s first change from the bench on Friday evening – Konrad Laimer brought a new impetus for the final 17 minutes when he replaced Sacha Boey at right-back.

During his time on the pitch, the 27-year-old Austrian was a buzz of activity particularly in attack. In minute 82, he showed excellent pace, poise, and precision, after being released down the right flank by Jamal Musiala, to set up fellow substitute Leroy Sané for a simple tap-in to make it 2-0.

It was a pity that he wasn’t able to get his name on the scoresheet in added time after being brilliantly picked out in the box by Michael Olise. Notwithstanding his miss at the end, it’s clear who will be the starting right-back for Bayern when they visit Celtic on Wednesday for the European Champions League first-leg play-off.
