On matchday nine of the ongoing 2025/26 Bundesliga season, Bayern Munich extended their record winning streak to 15 games against an underwhelming Bayer Leverkusen side at the Allianz Arena.

Die Roten put the game to bed inside the opening 45-minute period with goals from Serge Gnabry and Nicolas Jackson in the 25th and 31st minutes, respectively, plus an own-goal from Loic Bade just before the half-time whistle.

With one eye on Tuesday’s trip to France for the clash against the reigning European Champions, Paris Saint-Germain, the second half at times resembled a glorified training session. Let’s take a look at some interesting takeaways from Saturday’s victory over Leverkusen.

Easy win despite heavy squad rotation

For the game against Leverkusen on Saturday, Vincent Kompany made a whopping seven changes to the XI that started in the 4-1 victory at Koln in the DFB Pokal on Wednesday.

Despite the changes, Bayern won comfortably against the 2023/24 Bundesliga Champions. All in all, the manner of victory was rather surprising.

Notwithstanding Bayern’s 100% record thus far, considering the two relatively lacklustre halves displayed against Dortmund and Monchengladbach in the last two Bundesliga games, and then the slow start at Koln on Wednesday, there were signs that fatigue was starting to become a factor within the relatively thin squad.

As things turned out, Die Roten were able to make light work of the visitors without the likes of Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Luis Diaz. Vincent Kompany deserves the utmost credit for bringing the best out of the squad players.
