Rare poor outing for Joshua Kimmich and Serge Gnabry
If there was a game for a couple of the Bayern veterans to have an off-day, then this was probably the game for such an occurrence. Both Joshua Kimmich and Serge Gnabry clearly had their fair share of struggles during the game.
Joshua Kimmich was guilty of some poor passing during the game, which at times presented Bremen with some good moments going forward. Uncharacteristically, thirteen of his 92 passes missed their mark. In his 76 minutes on the pitch, the 31-year-old midfielder lost possession 21 times. This performance warrants concern, as since the turn of the year, he has been lacking consistency.
Similar to Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry has also been inconsistent in 2026. Against a struggling Werder Bremen side, the 30-year-old forward blew a golden opportunity when, just after the hour mark, he was played clean through by Kane with just the keeper to beat. Apart from that one clear opportunity Gnabry provided little thrust in the final third and was wisely replaced by Jamal Musiala after 69 minutes of action.
Conclusion
Bayern may have played down to the opposition to some degree. Even so Kimmich needs to do some re-focussing. Gnabry will soon have to make way for Musiala in the starting lineup and could be more impactful coming off the bench. Urbig will have to hold down the fort until Neuer returns.
