Excellent showing from Josip Stanisic upon his return from Injury

Josip Stanisic made his long-awaited return to competitive action for Bayern on Saturday when he replaced Leon Goretzka towards the end of the first half. Considering the fact that Stanisic had been out of action since last August with a torn lateral ligament in his right knee, one couldn’t have asked for a better performance from the 24-year-old Croatian defender.

In 49 minutes on the pitch at right-back, Stanisic looked solid, to say the least. He won both of his tackles and all four of his contested ground duels. In possession, he completed 92% of his passes (24/26) and even created two potential goal-scoring chances. With injuries threatening to decimate Bayern’s defensive line, Stanisic’s performance would have brought both joy and relief to the Bayern camp.
