Courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Leipzig on Wednesday at the Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich advanced to the semi-final stage of the DFB-Pokal competition for the first time since the 2020 treble-winning season.
In two league meetings between the two clubs, Bayern made light work of Leipzig, winning 6-0 at the Allianz Arena and 5-1 in the return fixture.
However, the lure of cup competition was on display as early as the fourth minute when Leipzig midfielder Christoph Baumgartner appeared to have given the visitors the lead from close range. Fortunately for the home team, following VAR intervention, the goal was disallowed for offside.
After RB Leipzig's disallowed goal, Bayern grew stronger as the game wore on. Midway through the second half, Die Roten secured the victory courtesy of a spot kick from Harry Kane in the 64th minute, followed by a fine 1v 1 finish from Luis Diaz three minutes later. Let’s take a look at a couple of interesting takeaways from Wednesday’s victory. Â
