Bayern Munich: Takeaways from crucial 1-0 win over Benfica
Bayern Munich get back to winning ways in the Champions League with a crucial 1-0 win over Benfica at Allianz Arena on Wednesday.
Leroy Sane’s introduction- The catalyst for victory
Since the second half of last season, Leroy Sané has been struggling with injury and poor form. Sané underwent groin surgery in July, and with Michael Olise hitting the ground running, there has been no reason for Kompany to rush the 28-year-old attacker back into action.
However, Sané’s form has been trending in the right direction in recent weeks. On Wednesday that upward trend continued when he replaced Olise just before the hour mark. In between drawing two fine saves from Trubin, Sané picked out Harry Kane in the box, with an in-swinging cross from the right, who then headed to Musiala to score the winner. With his current contract at Bayern expiring at the end of the season, Sané has a lot to play for. (Stats courtesy: Sofascore)
