Daniel Peretz can be proud

Daniel Peretz may not be the obvious successor to Manuel Neuer in the goal. However, after his baptism by fire in the 1-0 loss to Leverkusen in the DFB Pokal and then being hung out to dry twice against Heidenheim on the weekend in the 4-2 victory, the 24-year-old Israeli international can take solace in his performance against Shakhtar.

Peretz was not at fault for the goal he conceded. He made three excellent saves against the Ukrainian side and was quite tidy with the ball at his feet; having found his target with 84% of his attempted passes (26/31), including six of eleven long balls. Based on this recent performance from Peretz, with Manuel Neuer out until the new year with a broken rib and question marks over the availability of Sven Ulreich due to personal reasons, the Bavarian faithful can rely on Peretz to deliver good performances.

Impressive pressing with Thomas Muller

In an ironic twist the Bayern press, in the absence of Kane, has been looking more effective than it was with the England Captain in the lineup. That is not to suggest, by any means, that Bayern are better off without Kane in the starting XI. However, with Muller in the lineup, fans were reminded of just how effective the 35-year-old attacker is in orchestrating and supporting the press despite having lost a yard of pace.
