Luis Diaz still Jekyll and Hyde in front of goal

At a phase in the game when Bayern were struggling to make a breakthrough, Luis Diaz, after stretching to keep the ball from crossing the byline, scored Bayern’s first goal with a sensational strike from an acute angle. It was the sort of goal to inspire a struggling team.

To some extent, his goal did provide his team with an increased impetus. However, late in the first half, Diaz missed a clear 1 v 1 goal-scoring opportunity after being picked out by Harry Kane on the counterattack.

After his dominant first half against PSG earlier in the week, fans on Saturday would have been hoping for a repeat performance, minus the red card. However, Lucho’s undesirable profligacy in front of goal, with the seemingly easier opportunities, continues. The Bavarian faithful can only hope such occurrences won’t come back to haunt the team as the season progresses.

Conclusion

Mentally and physically tired players, a rare goalkeeping error from Manuel Neuer along with another glaring miss from Luis Diaz combined to bring an end to Bayern’s winning streak.
