Bayern Munich have announced that João Palhinha has picked up an adductor injury, which will force him to miss Portugal's upcoming matches in the UEFA Nations League.
The injuries continue to pile up for Bayern Munich, who already have several key players on the sidelines. Now, João Palhinha has been forced to leave the Portugal national team camp after sustaining an adductor injury.
Bayern have also confirmed that the defensive midfielder will now return to Munich to start working on his recovery process. It remains to be seen how long Palhinha will be sidelined for, and an exact diagnosis will likely only be available once he is back in Munich. Sky Sport are reporting a downtime of around three weeks for the midfielder.
João Palhinha joins ever-growing Bayern Munich injury list
The injury to Palhinha is sure to leave Vincent Kompany with another selection headache, with Aleksander Pavlović already sidelined and quite possibly out until the end of the year. One of Konrad Laimer and Leon Goretzka could partner Joshua Kimmich in the middle of the park in the coming games if Palhinha is unable to feature.
Goretzka made his first start to the season this past weekend as Bayern Munich claimed a 1-0 win over St. Pauli. While Laimer has largely been used as a right-back this season. Raphael Guerreiro could also be used in midfield.
With games against the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, and Bayer Leverkusen coming up after the international break, Bayern Munich can hardly afford any more injuries in the squad.
João Palhinha joined Bayern Munich this past summer from Fulham, and was just starting to stamp his authority in the team before sustaining his injury. The hope will be that he will be able to return to action before long.
