The midfield area of the squad may see a new addition at Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window. The Bavarian club managed to bring down the average age of their midfield department last summer by parting ways with Joao Palhinha and signing Tom Bischof from Hoffenheim on a free transfer.
Die Roten are expected to see another senior departure in the summer as Leon Goretzka is nearing the end of his contract. As things stand, the German midfielder will not get a new deal. He is firmly focusing on ending the season strongly with Bayern before making a decision on his next step.
Meanwhile, Bayern are stepping up the pursuit of a young German midfielder who will replace Goretzka. According to Sky Sports in Germany (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern have intensified their efforts to sign Kenneth Eichhorn from Hertha BSC in the summer. The 16-year-old midfielder is excelling with the senior team at Hertha this season.
Die Roten will face competition from European clubs, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig for the signing of Eichhorn. The youngster has a release clause worth €10-12 million in his contract with Hertha BSC.
Bayern must take the risk and sign Eichhorn now
Eichhorn has already made 14 appearances for Hertha this season. He has seamlessly adapted to the rigours of senior-level football. The teenager can play in central midfield and defensive midfield positions to a great effect.
The release clause in Eichhorn’s contract is expensive considering the age of the player. However, Bayern should go ahead and try to get this deal done. They missed out on players like Jude Bellingham and Florian Wirtz in the past when they showed reluctance in terms of taking the risk and paying a big fee for them.
Vincent Kompany has built a very good environment in the first team where a young player like Lennart Karl is excelling. The Belgian coach can certainly help in developing Eichhorn and make him a cornerstone of the first team in the long run.
From Eichhorn’s perspective, he needs to pick the next club cautiously, considering two crucial factors- sporting project and game time. The teenager may not get the needed game time straightaway at Bayern, but in the long run, he will definitely be a crucial part of the club’s plans. Moreover, he will get a very good opportunity to win silverware at Bayern as they compete for all trophies almost every season.
