The injury woes are showing no signs of slowing down for Bayern Munich as they enter the business end of the season. The emphatic 6-1 win against Atalanta on Tuesday came at a cost for Bayern as Alphonso Davies, Jamal Musiala, and Jonas Urbig suffered injuries.
Davies was substituted in the 71st minute by Tom Bischof. The Canadian left-back had just returned from a minor injury he suffered in February that kept him out for three weeks. It does look like the recent setback will be somewhat similar for the 25-year-old full-back.
While talking to TSN Sports (via iMiaSanMia), Canada’s head coach Jesse Marsch has confirmed that Davies will not be fit for the upcoming international break. Davies will miss games against Tunisia and Iceland.
Marsch has given a positive update on Davies’ potential return to action. The Canadian full back is confident about being fit in two to three weeks since the recent injury is not as serious as the one he suffered in February.
Bayern will be hoping Davies returns before the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Die Roten have one foot in the quarter-final of the European competition after winning 6-1 away at Atalanta in the round of 16.
"I spoke to him today. He’s obviously down and frustrated a little bit, but he said this little injury, compared to even the one he experienced a month ago is much less severity. He’ll probably be 2, 3 weeks before he’s back again. He’s probably not going to be with us for March, which is okay. "Jesse Marsch, Canada Head Coach
Kompany’s squad will be stretched in the final phase of the season
Considering how many games Davies has missed due to injuries in the last 12 months, his game time needs to be managed moving forward. Kompany will hope Davies can remain fit for the rest of the season when he returns to action at the start of April.
Kompany’s resources will be stretched in the coming weeks if he keeps losing players to injuries. Die Roten are competing on all fronts. They have already played a lot of games this season, which has led to the accumulation of fatigue in key players that can result in muscle injuries.
The Belgian head coach has done a fine job this season with a smaller squad during the Hinrunde. His squad management will be further tested in the coming weeks as they play big Champions League games and go deep in the DFB Pokal.
The Bavarian faithful will hope that injury woes ease up in the coming weeks, and Kompany has most of the squad available for big games. In order to win the treble, Bayern will need contributions from every player in the squad.
