Bayern Munich made a crucial announcement in January regarding the future of Leon Goretzka. Amidst concrete interest from Atletico Madrid and Arsenal, Bayern confirmed that Goretzka will stay until the end of the season and leave as a free agent in the summer.

There has been intense speculation around Goretzka’s future over the last 18 months. Bayern had told him to look for a transfer in 2024. However, the German midfielder was keen on fighting for game time in Munich instead of leaving the club. Goretzka excelled under Vincent Kompany last season whenever the Belgian gave him chances. Courtesy of his form last season, Bayern allowed Goretzka to enter the final 12 months of his contract.

This season has been a challenge for Goretzka since Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlovic have been the first-choice midfield pairing for Kompany. Due to less gametime in Hinrunde, European clubs tried to explore a move for him in January. In the meantime, Bayern had decided against offering a new contract to the former Schalke midfielder.

Goretzka will attract a lot of interest from top clubs in Europe since he is still in the prime of his career and looked good whenever he has played for Die Roten. The German international will have offers from other European leagues, but one Bundesliga club is also keen on signing him.

According to SportBild (via iMiaSanMia), Bayer Leverkusen have shown interest in signing Leon Goretzka at the end of the season. They have already touched base with Goretzka’s agent to explore the conditions of the deal. The German international has ruled out the possibility of joining Bayer Leverkusen, but his first preference is to join a Premier League club.

Premier League would be perfect fit for Goretzka

The German midfielder has excelled in the Bundesliga for several years. His physical prowess and ability to make late darting runs in the box have created chaos for opposition defense. Goretzka is also a leader on and off the pitch, making him an ideal midfield target for several big clubs.

After winning every possible trophy in the Bundesliga, the Premier League is ideally the next challenge Goretzka should pursue. His playing style and physical robustness will make him a suitable midfielder for high pace and intense Premier League.

Manchester United and West Ham United have previously shown interest in Goretzka. Arsenal tried to sign the German international on deadline day in January. There will be more clubs in the race to sign Goretzka in the summer, so he is unlikely to make a decision before the end of the season. He remains focused on winning the treble with Bayern.
