The international break has not even started properly, and Bayern Munich have suffered an injury blow. Jonas Urbig has left Germany’s training camp after suffering an injury. The German goalkeeper will continue his recovery at Bayern.
The young goalkeeper suffered a capsule injury in his right knee. This injury has forced him to miss Germany’s two games against Switzerland and Ghana. Germany have not called upon a replacement for Urbig.
It is a shame for Urbig because he thoroughly deserved to be part of the squad after his impressive performances for Bayern over the past few weeks. The young German goalkeeper will have to wait for his opportunity at least until the end of the season
While talking to the media on Thursday, Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann confirmed that Urbig’s injury is not serious. The German coach insisted that Urbig could have continued training with the squad, but eventually it was decided that releasing him was the best option.
Julian Nagelsmann says Jonas Urbig has left the national team as a precautionary measure and his injury is minor: "It's nothing serious, he could have continued training here with us, but I didn't want to push him too hard. That doesn't benefit him, it doesn't benefit us, it… pic.twitter.com/BqZdkwNXzW

Urbig has been playing consistently for Bayern over the last few weeks when Manuel Neuer suffered an injury. He only missed the 2-2 draw against Bayer Leverkusen as he was ruled out due to a concussion. Die Roten and the Bavarian faithful will hope Urbig recovers by the end of the international break.
Neuer expected to return after the international break
The international break gives Bayern’s already injured players time to recover and be ready for the final stretch of the season. Manuel Neuer has been on the sidelines for several weeks due to two minor injuries. However, he is expected to return to action after the international break.
Bayern need Neuer’s experience for the upcoming Champions League quarter-final clash against Real Madrid. Die Roten have not beaten Real Madrid since 2012, so Vincent Kompany can certainly do with their captain back in the goal.
Neuer’s future at Bayern will be sorted after the international break. The former Schalke shot-stopper will turn 40 this week. Bayern are open to offering Neuer a new deal since he has hardly shown signs of decline. The ball is in Neuer’s court. Bayern hope for a quick decision to ensure they are well prepared for the summer transfer window.
In the meantime, Bayern are banking on Urbig to be Neuer’s long-term replacement. The young German goalkeeper is good on the ball and very commanding in the box, which makes him a solid successor of Neuer in the long run.
