Bayern Munich star subject to interest from Milan clubs

Bayern Munich defender has emerged as a transfer target for the two big Milan clubs as his future in Bavaria looks far from certain.

After focusing on the attack last summer, Bayern Munich are expected to be busy shoring up the defense during the upcoming transfer windows. The Bavarian club has been linked with several defenders since the start of the season.

The arrival of new center-backs will solely hinge on the futures of Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae. The former has entered the final year of his contract, while the latter has been consistently linked with a move away from Munich.

The South Korean defender is no longer the first-choice center-back for Bayern. Jonathan Tah has gone straight into Kompany’s first-choice starting XI after arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer. Kim Min-jae has performed well whenever he has had opportunities this season, but Tah and Upamecano are the go-to center-back pairing for the Belgian head coach.

Courtesy of Bayern’s search for a new central defender, Kim Min-jae will likely be on the move in the summer. According to Tribal Football, AC Milan and Inter Milan have shown concrete interest in Kim Min-jae. The South Korean had a successful spell in Serie A with Napoli before moving to Munich a few years ago.

Apart from the Milan giants, there is interest from the Premier League. Tribal Football has reported that Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea are also keeping a close eye on Kim Min-jae’s situation at Bayern.

Kim Min-jae has struggled for consistency in Bavarian colours. A good run of form has been followed by a run of error-prone performances for the South Korean defender. If Bayern decides to part ways with him, a move to Serie A will benefit Kim Min-jae, as he had previously excelled in Italy.

From a financial perspective, it makes sense for Bayern to cash in next summer rather than wait for the player to go deeper in their contract. The South Korean’s current deal in Munich expires in 2028.

Bayern hold talks with Marc Guehi

It does look like Bayern have identified Marc Guehi as their top target to strengthen the defense. The defending Bundesliga champions have already held talks with Guehi’s representatives. They face competition from Liverpool and Real Madrid for the English defender.

Guehi has no plans to sign a new contract at Crystal Palace. He will be free to talk with interested clubs in January. Bayern can sign a pre-contract agreement during the winter transfer window. He came close to joining Liverpool in the summer, but the race is wide open for his signature.
