Bayern Munich are working on a contract extension for Harry Kane. The English forward returned from a short break a few days ago after he participated in the World Cup. Kane has entered the final year of his current deal at Bayern.

The Bundesliga champions had a ceremony organised for Kane on Wednesday to award him the Golden Shoe award for being the top scorer in Europe last season. He ended the season with 36 league goals, which helped him earn 72 points and finish at the top of the scoring charts in the league. It was Kane’s second Golden Shoe award in three seasons for Die Roten.

The English forward ended up scoring 73 goals for club and country over the last 12 months. It is the second-best tally for a forward, behind Lionel Messi’s record of 82 goals in the 2011/12 campaign.

Bayern chiefs are backing Kane to win the Ballon d’Or for his remarkable scoring stats last season. He won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal with Die Roten. The Champions League run for Kane and Bayern ended at the semi-final stage. He also won the bronze medal with England at the World Cup.

Kane is content with life in Munich. The English forward is optimistic about signing a new deal at Bayern. While talking to English journalist Henry Winter in FourFourTwo, Kane ruled out a return to England in the near future.

"When I first left, for sure it was something that I thought I'd definitely be coming back. That itch isn't there as much anymore. I'm extremely happy here in Munich. With the team we have here, with the manager. My family are really settled here. It's just about being in the best place possible. I never say never, but for now, I'm concentrating on Bayern Munich, and we'll see what the future holds."

Kane showing no signs of slowing down

It is a no-brainer for Bayern to extend the contract of Kane. The 33-year-old has shown no signs of decline in his three years in Munich. With every passing season, Kane is getting better.

The English forward became the quickest player to score 100 goals for a European club in the 21st century, which highlights his incredible impact at Bayern. There were several eyebrows raised when Die Roten paid €100 million for 29-year-old Kane. The former Spurs forward has proved that it was money well spent by Bayern.

Considering his contribution over the last three seasons, it is crucial for Bayern to secure his future. It is not outrageous to say Die Roten should offer a four-year contract to a 33-year-old forward. His overall fitness, professionalism, leadership, and quality on the pitch justify a long-term commitment in the new deal.

With both parties keen on a new contract, negotiations should conclude sooner rather than later. Bayern should look to announce an extension in September. Kane may return to England one day, but it is unlikely to happen in the next three to four years.
