The final international break of the season is always a tricky period for clubs as they want all players to be fit for the business end of the season. Bayern Munich are looking to win another treble. In order to achieve this ambitious target, Bayern need a lot of luck with injuries from now until the end of the season.
Dayot Upamecano is one player that Bayern will not have to worry about for the rest of the international break. The French defender has been released from the French squad (via Bulinews) after he received a red card against Brazil in a friendly game this week. He is suspended for France’s second game against Colombia on Sunday.
Upamecano has been a key defender for Bayern this season. Based on the performances at the club level over the last 18 months, it is fair to say Upamecano has been one of the best center-backs in the world. His fitness is crucial for Die Roten to go all the way in all three competitions. Bayern will be pleased he doesn’t have to play one more game this week. He will get an ample amount of rest before the Bundesliga resumes on April 4.
Jonas Urbig returned to Sabner Strasse earlier this week due to a minor injury. It was an unfortunate moment for Urbig as it was his first call-up with the senior team. Bayern are hopeful Urbig will be fit by the end of the international break.
Vincent Kompany will have a strong squad available after the international break
Vincent Kompany had to work with a small squad this season due to injuries and limited activity in the last summer transfer window. However, things are looking better for the Belgian coach on the injury front after the international break.
Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies have been working on the pitch at Sabner Strasse to continue their recovery from respective injuries. If everything goes well for both stars, they should be fit for the blockbuster Champions League games against Real Madrid in April.
The Belgian coach will have to be smart with his rotation during the next couple of months to ensure Bayern Munich players don’t suffer injuries due to the accumulation of injuries. The Bavarian faithful will hope the football Gods are kind to them this season when it comes to injuries in the most decisive phase of the season.
