Bayern Munich endured rotten luck with injuries during 2025. Alphonso Davies was one of the key players for Die Roten, who was on the sidelines for most of the year due to a serious knee injury. The Canadian returned to action in December after spending eight months on the sidelines.

Davies suffered a serious injury during the international break in March. Bayern had accused the Canadian national team of negligence for Davies’ injury. The Canadian came off the pitch after 12 minutes during the 2-1 win against the USA. Davies returned to Munich and was eventually diagnosed with a serious knee injury. Bayern believed Canada showed negligence by sending the player on a 12-hour flight before a thorough medical assessment.

The 25-year-old underwent surgery to repair the damage in his knee. It was a severe blow for Die Roten since Davies was excelling under Vincent Kompany. He was sorely missed during the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The long recovery process was very challenging for Davies. While talking to Bayern’s official website, Davies opened up about the difficulties he faced during the recovery process. The Canadian full-back was finding it difficult to come to terms with the severity of the knee injury.

"When I heard the diagnosis, all the energy went out of my body. After the op, I woke up, looked at my leg and couldn’t believe what happened. Then the questions came: will I be the same again? Will I play again? When I showered for the first time after the op, all the emotions came out. I burst into tears. I was in pain, couldn’t bend my leg, couldn’t walk for six or seven weeks. I hardly slept at night, woke up in pools of sweat."

Davies admitted that mental healing was much more challenging than physical healing during the last nine months. The Canadian full-back admitted that the injury also gave him a different perspective on life. Davies worked hard, and with the support of his family and friends, he overcame the difficult period of rehabilitation.

Alphonso Davies will add another edge to Bayern’s prolific attack

Bayern have been one of the best attacking teams in Europe this season. Harry Kane and Luis Diaz have been scoring for fun, while Michael Olise has been at his creative best in the final third. Lennart Karl, Serge Gnabry, and Nicolas Jackson have also chipped in with crucial goals during the first half of the season.

The return of Davies will make Bayern’s attack more potent. The Canadian is electric going forward. His pace and dribbling help in creating chances in the final third. He may need some time to build a partnership with Davies, but they certainly have the potential to become a deadly duo on the left flank.

From a defensive point of view, Davies helps Bayern massively in the build-up play since he is excellent on the ball. His pace and dribbling help in beating the press from the opposition.

Bayern are slowly easing Davies back into action. They have given him gametime from the bench during the last three games of 2025. Kompany and Die Roten will slowly increase his workload when the Bundesliga resumes against Wolfsburg on January 11.
