Bayern Munich strengthened the defense this summer by signing Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt. The Bundesliga champions needed strengthening in the full-back position since Raphael Guerreiro left on a free transfer, while Sacha Boey is also expected to leave by the end of the summer.

Brown primarily plays in the left-back position. Since Alphonso Davies has struggled with injuries over the last 12 months, Bayern needed cover in this position.

Considering Brown has been playing consistently for Frankfurt over the last 12 months, he would expect to get sizeable game time at Bayern. His signing led to speculation around the future of Davies. Reports in Germany at the start of the summer insisted that Bayern are open to listening to offers for the Canadian full-back.

However, the 25-year-old defender is not keen on giving up on his career at Bayern. According to AZ, Alphonso Davies has decided to stay at Bayern this summer. Die Roten have no plans to push for a departure. They would ideally like Brown and Davies to compete for a spot in the starting XI.

Davies and Brown can also play higher up the pitch as left-sided forwards. The German international can also slot in the midfield if needed. Considering their versatility, there is a good chance that Brown and Davies will play together in some games.

Davies returns early to start pre-season at Bayern

It was a disappointing World Cup for Davies as he missed games for Canada due to an injury he suffered in April. However, the Canadian is eager to make up for the lost time as he reported at Sabner Strasse earlier than expected.

Davies was spotted doing light training on the grass this week. He is expected to be part of the pre-season training that begins next week. Bayern and Vincent Kompany still rate Davies highly, so his return to form will be tremendous for the squad next season.

In terms of transfers in defense, Bayern are not planning any significant signing before the end of the window unless there is a major outgoing. The Bavarian club has decided to keep Kim Min-jae for next season, but remains open to listening to offers for Hiroki Ito and Sacha Boey. Die Roten are hoping to finalize the new contract for Konrad Laimer, who will be the first-choice right-back next season. The Austrian has been in advanced talks with the Bavarian club after talks reached an impasse earlier this year.
