Bayern Munich will kick off their season on Saturday with the curtain-raiser game of the German football campaign. The Bavarian club will face Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup, formerly known as the DFL Super Cup.
The Bavarian faithful will hope for a strong performance from the team against their arch-rivals. Vincent Kompany will have a formidable squad available for this game, but Jamal Musiala is set to miss it, as Bayern do not want to add to his workload after the incidents in the last two pre-season games.
Musiala collapsed in the games against RB Leipzig and Heidenheim in the space of four days. The German international revealed on social media that a minor neurological issue led to these collapses. However, he reiterated that this issue will not stop him from playing football for Die Roten.
Bayern hopeful about Musiala playing in Bundesliga opener
Despite facing two scares in the space of four days, Bayern are confident that Musiala should be fit for the Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart next Friday. The German attacking midfielder had an individual training session at Sabner Strasse under the observation of health and coaching staff.
Max Eberl and Vincent Kompany also revealed further details about Musiala’s situation in Friday’s pre-cup game press conference. Bayern have been aware of Musiala’s neurological condition for more than a year. However, the recent issues cropped up due to side effects caused by the change of medication.
Musiala is expected to go back to the previous medication that worked well for him. The Bavarian club is firmly behind the German attacking midfielder and expects him to stay healthy and have a great season.
Max Eberl on Musiala: "We've known about it the entire last season. It was Jamal's wish to communicate it. The players also knew about it. For us, it's become part of everyday life. We, as the FC Bayern family, stand together, will give him all our support, have already done so,… pic.twitter.com/MEZ1y6b6su

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder’s condition is not a big topic of discussion at Bayern. The squad has publicly jumped into his support recently, but they have been aware of his condition for quite some time.
Musiala had a difficult last 12 months due to injury problems. He suffered a serious injury against PSG in the Club World Cup last summer, which kept him out of action for more than seven months. After completing the recovery from this injury, Musiala needed some time to get the rhythm back on the pitch. Bayern chiefs and fans are hopeful of seeing Musiala back to his best this season.
Along with Musiala, Lennart Karl and Serge Gnabry will miss Saturday’s game against Borussia Dortmund as they continue to recover from their respective injuries.
