Bayern Munich managed to lay down the marker early in the Bundesliga by beating arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. It was overall a dominant performance despite Dortmund’s improved efforts in the second half.
Courtesy of the 2-1 win in Der Klassiker on Saturday, Bayern moved five points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table. They have opened up a lead of seven points over Dortmund, who slipped to fourth place after Saturday’s results.
Die Roten have scored impressive 27 goals in seven league games and conceded only four goals. They are yet to drop a game this season, winning 11 games across all competitions. Along with getting results, Bayern are also delivering dominant performances.
Vincent Kompany is getting plaudits for his man management and tactical acumen during the start of his second season in Munich. While talking to media after the win against Dortmund (via Bulinews), Konrad Laimer insisted that Bayern are the best team to play in at this moment.
"You can always improve in football, but at the moment, it just makes a lot of fun to play with the lads. That’s how you want to play, that’s a team you want to be part of - that’s the way we want to keep on going."Konrad Laimer
Laimer also had special words for Harry Kane while talking to press. The English forward was everywhere on the pitch against Dortmund, contributing offensively and defensively. Kane scored the first goal and played a crucial role in the second goal.
Laimer excelling in different roles under Kompany
On a personal note, Konrad Laimer has been a key player for Bayern and Kompany over the last 18 months. He has not got a consistent run in his preferred position, which is in the center of the park. However, this has not deterred him from becoming one of the lieutenants of Kompany on the pitch.
The Austrian midfielder has been doing a fine job in the right-back position. With Sacha Boey struggling with injuries over the last 15 months, Laimer cemented himself as first choice right-back for Bayern. He combines well with Michael Olise on the right flank. From defensive point of view, he works tirelessly to stop opposition forwards to build momentum.
It wouldn’t be a big surprise if Bayern decide to offer Laimer a new deal in the future. He is settled at the club and Kompany is also pleased with his performances.
Bayern will turn their attention to Champions League in the midweek. The Bavarian club will look to make it 12 wins in a row when they host Club Brugge on Wednesday. Die Roten can further consolidate their position at the top of points table by clinching a win against the Belgian side.
