It has been a sensational breakthrough season for Lennart Karl at Bayern Munich. The youngster scored crucial goals and got adequate game time in the senior team. He established himself as a first-team player for Bayern by the end of the season.

The youngster also got to taste success in the first team as Bayern won the domestic double. Karl was well-placed to end an incredible season by playing for Germany at the World Cup. Julian Nagelsmann was impressed with his performances at the club level, so he handed the youngster his first cap for Germany in April.

Karl ended up being picked for the World Cup squad. However, the teenager endured a big setback at the end of last week. While training for the national team, Karl suffered a muscle injury. His dream of playing at the World Cup this summer has been cut short.

The teenager was devastated after hearing the outcome of the reports on the muscle injury. Nagelsmann offered Karl words of encouragement as the squad bid him farewell. He has already returned to Munich and begun the rehabilitation process.

Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed that Karl will need six weeks to recover from the muscle injury. The youngster should be fit for the pre-season training in July. Bayern will be cautious with his return since he has a big role to play next season.

Germany has called up Assan Ouédraogo as a replacement for Karl. The RB Leipzig midfielder has already joined the squad in the USA.

Karl gets the rest after a long breakthrough season for club and country

It is sad to see Karl’s season end with an injury. However, he will now get time to rest after a gruesome debut season at the senior level.

Karl made 34 appearances for Die Roten across the Bundesliga and Champions League, accumulating almost 1,800 minutes of game time. The German forward ended the season with 16 goal contributions (9 goals and 6 assists). The 18-year-old has been managed well by Bayern and Vincent Kompany to avoid burnout.

The injury over the weekend will give Karl time out over the summer, returning fresh and fit for the pre-season. His game time will significantly increase next season as he gets better.

Bayern have already secured the future of Karl. Considering the youngster's incredible talent, he will certainly become an important player for Die Roten and Germany in the long run. There is no doubt he will get opportunity to play for Germany in the next World Cup.
