It has been a mixed international break for Bayern Munich talisman Harry Kane. The English forward was on the scoresheet against Spain last week, but he missed a decisive penalty to help his team go 3-1 ahead on the night. The penalty miss turned out to crucial moment in the game as Spain came back from behind to clinch a 3-2 win.
Kane was devastated after missing the penalty against Spain. Nevertheless, his overall performance was fairly good against the World Champions.
Considering how competitive Kane is, the English forward is eager to make up for the penalty miss in the remaining three games. England will face Czech Republic twice and Croatia once over the next ten days.
While talking to the media last week (via Evening Standard), England and former Bayern head coach Thomas Tuchel insisted that Kane doesn’t want any rest during the international break. The English forward is keen on playing all four games.
However, the former Bayern head coach admitted that he cannot take the risk of adding workload on the same players across four games. He has hinted that Kane may start a couple of games on the bench even though he is desperate to start every game for England.
Bayern would like England to manage Kane’s workload
Kane has been exceptional for Bayern since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023. He enjoyed his best season in Bavarian colours last year, scoring 61 goals across all competitions. The 33-year-old also scored 12 goals for England, taking his tally to 73 goals across the season.
Die Roten are hoping to see Kane win the Ballon d’Or for his contribution on the pitch over the last 12 months. However, they would like to see England manage his workload since he has been playing non-stop for a long time. A bit of a breather during the international break will bode well for Kane over the entire season.
Bayern have a couple of key players resting during the international break. Luis Diaz didn’t join up with the Colombian national team after discussing with the head coach that taking rest would serve him better. The 29-year-old has endured a quiet start to the campaign, scoring one goal in seven games.
Alphonso Davies has also been rested by the Canadian national team due to his wedding celebrations. In Kane’s case, he will not get complete rest, but managing his minutes is the least Bayern will hope England and Tuchl will do to ensure he avoids injuries.
