Germany’s shock exit from the World Cup in the round of 16 has given Bayern Munich a window to conclude transfer business. The Bundesliga champions have agreed a fee for the departure of Alexander Nubel on a permanent transfer.
Bayern agreed a fee with Besiktas for Nubel’s permanent transfer earlier this week. As per Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern will receive a fixed fee of €6.5 million plus €5 million in bonuses.
Nubel underwent a medical in Turkey and completed the transfer once the two clubs had reached an agreement over a free transfer. The German international will earn a salary of €5 million net per season at Besiktas.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper was certain to leave Bayern this summer after the club decided to extend Manuel Neuer’s contract for one more season. Moreover, Die Roten are backing Jonas Urbig to become Neuer’s long-term successor at the club.
Nubel arrived at Bayern in 2020 on a free transfer from Schalke. After spending a year as a backup to Neuer, Nubel went out on loan to Monaco for two seasons. The German goalkeeper had a decent spell in France. With Neuer showing no signs of decline, Nubel once again left Bayern to join VfB Stuttgart on a season-long loan.
The former Schalke goalkeeper excelled at Stuttgart. His positive performances were rewarded by Bayern with a contract extension in 2024. Nubel spent the next two seasons on loan at Stuttgart. His performances at Stuttgart also helped him to get into the German national team.
Die Roten have ended up making a decent profit on a player who joined on a free transfer. Nubel had the quality to do well for a club like Bayern, but the timing of his move to Munich unfortunately coincided with Neuer’s presence at the club.
Earlier this summer, Bayern also agreed a permanent deal with Southampton for the transfer of Daniel Peretz. The Israeli goalkeeper spent the second half of last season on loan at Southampton as they pushed for promotion to the Premier League.
Bayern don’t need any new goalkeeper this summer
The Bundesliga champions have concluded business in the goalkeeping department for this summer by parting ways with Nubel and Peretz. Bayern have all three spots in the position locked in for next season.
Neuer will start the season as number one, but Jonas Urbig is expected to get significant game time. Sven Ulreich will be the number three after signing a new one-year deal. Bayern may have to dip into the market for a new goalkeeper next summer if Neuer and Ulreich decide to bring down the curtains on their careers.
