Bayern Munich are not expected to be very active in the winter transfer window. They will likely put the groundwork for the summer transfer window by potentially agreeing pre-contract agreements with the targets who will be free agents in the summer.

The Bavarian club also has a couple of players who will be free to talk with clubs in January due to their contracts expiring at the end of the season. Leon Goretzka is one of the high-profile Bayern players who are in the final year of their existing deals.

The German midfielder will attract interest from several clubs due to his consistency for Bayern over the last seven years. According to SportBild (via iMiaSanMia), Fenerbahce are showing concrete interest in signing Goretzka when the transfer window opens in January. Fenerbahce’s head coach, Dominic Tedesco, rates Goretzka highly and has previously worked with him at Schalke.

However, Bayern will likely rebuff all offers for Goretzka in the winter transfer window. The Bavarian club has a small squad, so selling a player of Goretzka’s caliber midway through the season doesn’t make sense. Moreover, Goretzka is currently getting adequate game time under Vincent Kompany.

Goretzka eager to sign a new deal at Bayern

Along with Bayern, Goretzka also has no interest in exploring a transfer during the winter transfer window. Signing a new contract with Bayern is the priority for the German midfielder. He feels settled in Munich and also has the trust of Vincent Kompany.

However, Bayern have not shown any sign of exploring a new deal for Goretzka. The Bavarian club will address his situation later in the season. Die Roten have already bought a young midfielder in Tom Bishcof, while Aleksandar Pavlovic is a long-term midfield option for the club. Keeping these things in mind, it is not surprising to see Bayern deliberating over a new deal for Goretzka.

The onus is on the German midfielder to keep working hard and deliver impressive performances. If Die Roten decide against offering him a new deal, Goretzka can start exploring a move in Europe’s top five leagues. Moving to Turkey may not be on the German midfielder’s agenda as he is a fierce competitor and hungry for success at the top level.

The priority for Goretzka for rest of the season is to get consistent game time ahead of the World Cup in the summer. If he continues to excel on the pitch, Bayern may have to alter their contract plans.
