With just a week left in the season, Bayern Munich chiefs will turn their attention to strengthening the squad. Along with signing new players, Bayern also need to resolve the futures of key players in the squad.

Konrad Laimer has been a crucial player for Bayern over the last couple of seasons under Vincent Kompany. The Austrian midfielder has excelled in the full-back position. He has been one of the best right-backs in Europe this season. Laimer will enter the final year of his current deal at Bayern when the new season begins in August.

The talks between Laimer and Bayern have stalled due to disagreement over the salary package in the new contract. Laimer is content with life in Munich, and there is no deterioration in the relationship between the club and player despite the breakdown in talks.

However, Bayern are open to losing Laimer on a free transfer next summer. They have no plans to cave in to the Austrian midfielder’s salary demands.

While talking to DAZN a few days ago (via OneFootball), Bayern legend and supervisory board member Uli Hoeness insisted Laimer is not Maradona. He praised Laimer for his quality but insisted that some players need to understand there are limits to the salary demands. Hoeness effectively suggested that Laimer can certainly not go about demanding a salary that is earned by attacking stars.

According to Bild (via iMiaSanMia), Laimer has been annoyed by the comments made by Uli Hoeness. The German media outlet also insisted that a quick agreement over a new deal is looking unlikely.

Bayern set to take a patient approach regarding Laimer’s renewal

The record Bundesliga champions have caved in when it comes to agreeing on the wage demands of players for new contracts in the last 18 months. Bayern handed bumper deals to Joshua Kimmich, Dayot Upamecano, Alphonso Davies, and Jamal Musiala since the start of 2025.

Die Roten are not expected to blink first in the negotiations with Laimer. The club chiefs have already suggested that Laimer losing on a free transfer in 2027 will not be a financial loss since he arrived from RB Leipzig as a free agent in 2023.

Bayern will allow Laimer to enter the final year of the contract. They will certainly make an offer to him, which will be lower than the Austrian’s reported demand of €12–15 million per year. The ball will be in Laimer’s court regarding his future in Munich.
