Number 10 role

With Jamal Musiala on the long-term injury list, Bayern’s lack of depth in attack is clear as day. In the absence of the 22-year-old attacking midfielder, Vincent Kompany has turned to veteran-Serge Gnabry to fill the void in the number ten role.

During the prime years of his career Gnabry had previously established himself mainly as a versatile winger with an eye for goal who could also put in a decent shift at center-forward when called upon. However, in recent years he has fallen down the pecking order at Bayern due to poor form and injuries.

In the first four competitive games of the young season, the 30-year-old-forward has done an admirable job of keeping the seat warm for Musiala. In the most recent game before the current international break, which Die Roten won 3-2 at Augsburg, Gnabry scored the opener with a fine header.

Despite the good showing to date from Gnabry, Bayern’s attack won’t hit maximum heights until Musiala returns. The Bavarian faithful can only hope that his stand-in continues to thrive in his absence.
