The last couple of weeks saw a dip in results for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. They dropped points in two consecutive Bundesliga games for the first time this season. However, Vincent Kompany responded to this minor setback with an emphatic 5-1 win against Hoffenheim.

Bayern had the entire squad available for this game, so one senior player had to sit in the stands. Kim Min-jae was unfortunate to miss out on this game. Kompany went with Serge Gnabry in the number ten position ahead of Jamal Musiala and Lennart Karl.

The hosts started the game strongly as players looked hungry and ready to make amends for the last two games. Michael Olise came up with a thunderous shot from the edge of the box in the eighth minute. Oliver Baumann pulled off a terrific save to deny the French winger.

Bayern dominated the possession and looked the most likely team to open the scoring. The good start for hosts was eventually rewarded in the 16th minute. Die Roten were awarded a penalty after Kevin Akpoguma brought Luis Diaz down in the box. The Nigerian defender was sent off for this challenge. Harry Kane expertly converted from the spot to give Bayern a deserved lead.

Hoffenheim woke up after going a man down. They had a couple of brilliant chances to equalize as Die Roten looked shaky off the ball. The visitors stunned Allianz Arena in the 35th minute, courtesy of an error from Manuel Neuer. The German goalkeeper gave the ball away to Fisnik Asllani while playing out from the back. Asllani squared the ball to Andrej Kramaric. The Croatian calmly slotted the ball past Neuer.

Bayern players gathered themselves quickly after conceding the equalizer and started creating chances in the final third. They managed to regain the lead before the half-time whistle as Diaz was brought down by Vladimir Coufal. Kane extended his flawless record from the spot.

The home side made things worse for Hoffenheim in the added time of the first half. A swift break saw Kane find Diaz around the box. The Colombian managed to cut inside to get on his right foot. Diaz calmly placed the ball in the bottom corner to make it 3-1.

“Diaz show” seals three points for Bayern Munich

The second half was all about Luis Diaz. The Colombian dominated the first half by winning two penalties and scoring the crucial second goal. He delivered an even better performance during the second half.

Michael Olise delivered a terrific cross from the right flank to find the run of Diaz in the box. The former Liverpool forward calmly finished the move to make it 4-1 just over the hour mark.

Bayern showed no mercy after scoring the fourth goal, as Hoffenheim had to deal with waves of attack. Kane had the chance of getting a hat-trick, but he uncharacteristically fluffed the lines. Diaz put the final nail in the coffin with a brilliant strike from the edge of the box in the final minutes of the game. The Colombian got the ball on his stronger right foot by cutting inside from the left flank and eventually unleashing a shot to beat Baumann.

Kompany will be pleased with the way the team delivered a good performance on Sunday to get the winning feeling again after a disappointing couple of weeks.
