Bayern Munich went into the winter break on a good note by clinching a 4-0 win away at Heidenheim in the Bundesliga. The start of the winter break also marks the countdown for the winter transfer window, which opens at the start of January. Bayern are not expected to do business, but they are expected to work on transfers for the summer.

Even though talks with Dayot Upamecano are moving in the right direction, Bayern are expected to strengthen their defensive options in the summer. They have been linked with several defenders since the start of the season. Chelsea’s highly rated defender Josh Acheampong joins the list of center-backs Bayern are keeping a close eye on.

According to Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern have registered interest in Acheampong. Chelsea have no plans to part ways with the teenager, but Bayern are keeping a close eye on his game time this season. It does look like Bayern may make a move if the youngster agitates for a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Die Roten will face competition from Manchester City for the signing of Acheampong. Pep Guardiola’s team is also keenly following the development of the 19-year-old defender at Chelsea.

Acheampong has been part of the first team at Chelsea this season. In the first half of the season, the young defender has accumulated 673 minutes of game time across all competitions. He has largely played in the center-back position for Chelsea, but the youngster can also play on the right side of a back three.

Chelsea under no pressure to sell Acheampong

In an ideal scenario, Acheampong should get game time in excess of 1500 minutes for Chelsea by the end of the season. The youngster will not agitate for a move away from Stamford Bridge if Chelsea provide him a proper pathway to be a regular in the first team.

From a contractual point of view, Chelsea are not under pressure to consider offers for Acheampong. The teenager’s contract with the London-based club expires in 2029. It will take an incredible turn of events for Bayern to clinch the signing of Acheampong in the summer.

Bayern’s approach to improve options in central defense will hinge on the futures of Upamecano and Kim Min-jae. The French defender is open to staying at Bayern. Meanwhile, the Bavarian club is reportedly fine with considering offers for Kim Min-jae in the summer.
