Bayern Munich have pounced on market opportunities during the winter transfer window. They agreed a pre-contract deal with Tom Bischof. The young German midfielder will join Bayern in the summer on a free transfer. FC Koln’s Jonas Urbig will become Bayern’s second signing of January. His arrival will strengthen the goalkeeping department.

In terms of departure, Mathys Tel was expected to be the high-profile departure in January. However, the French forward held positive talks with the club at the start of the month and decided to stay in Munich until the end of the season.

With next to no game time in the last three games, doubts over the future of Tel is again a topic of discussion in Munich. According to TZ, Tel and his representatives will hold talks with Bayern this week to get more clarity on their plans for him during the second half of the season.

Tel remains keen on staying at Bayern

The 19-year-old French winger remains keen on staying at Bayern. However, he needs assurances regarding game time for the rest of the season. He has struggled to get adequate playing time under Kompany. His first goal contribution of the season came against Hoffenheim a few days ago when he delivered a pinpoint cross for Leroy Sane.

Bayern chiefs have consistently insisted that Tel remains part of their long-term plans. However, the youngster is frustrated with the lack of game time. The French forward is determined to succeed at Bayern, but he should play regularly to continue his development.

TZ also reports that Tel is not interested in joining Chelsea. The Premier League club has shown concrete interest in the winger. However, there have been no negotiations between Chelsea and Tel regarding a transfer.

Bayern also hold interest in Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku. There have been suggestions in Germany about a potential swap deal between both clubs involving the French forwards. However, it is a very complex deal to pull off due to the limited time left in the transfer window.

In an ideal scenario, Tel stays in Munich, and Kompany gradually improves his game time. Apart from Tel, the Belgian coach has managed to get the best out of all forwards at Bayern. It would be a pity if Die Roten decided to sell him permanently after spending so much time and money on a young player over the last two seasons. They should look to loan him out if Kompany is not ready to use him adequately during the second half of the campaign. Bayern can reassess Tel’s situation in the summer.
