The semi-final stage of the World Cup 2026 has been cruel and devastating for Bayern Munich stars. Harry Kane’s England side bowed out of the competition after two late goals from Argentina sealed a 2-1 victory on Wednesday.
Earlier this week, Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano suffered defeat with France in the semi-final clash against Spain. Following the outcomes of the two semi-finals, Spain and Argentina face off in the final on Sunday.
Courtesy of defeats for France and England, Bayern saw a unique World Cup streak end. Since the 1982 World Cup, Bayern has always had at least one player featuring in the World Cup final. However, this year they will have no one from the current squad playing in the final.
Bayern have always had at least one player in every World Cup final since 1982:

Kane will come up against Olise and Upamecano for the third-place game on Saturday. It is a disappointing game to feature in since third-place finishes are hardly remembered. France and England had the squad to go all the way.
Bayern stars had a mixed World Cup
Despite exiting at the semi-final stage, Harry Kane, Dayot Upamecano, and Michael Olise had promising World Cup campaigns.
Olise excelled with five assists in the competition. He linked up brilliantly with Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, and Desire Doue to form one of the most devastating attacks in the competition. Dayot Upamecano was also solid at the back for France. Unfortunately for the Bayern duo, their off day came in the semi-final.
Kane scored six goals for England in the tournament. Along with Jude Bellingham, Kane was the key man for England during their run until the semi-final. However, he was completely nullified by Argentina on Wednesday.
Bayern’s German players had a disappointing tournament as they were knocked out in the round of 32 by Paraguay. Kim Min-jae, Alphonso Davies, Hiroki Ito, Josip Stanisic, Konrad Laimer, and Luis Diaz couldn’t go deep in the competition with their respective countries. Bayern’s new signing Ismael Saibari scored memorable goals for Morocco’s run until the quarter-final. He was unfortunate to miss the game against France due to injury.
The Bavarian faithful will hope that the third-place game between England and France ends without any injury to the club’s key players. After a long summer, Bayern stars will get a break for vacation. They will join the squad for pre-season in August. The players who didn't feature in the World Cup or their teams got knocked out early were spotted at Sabner Strasse this week.
