Bayern Munich are currently light in attack after Kingsley Coman, Thomas Müller, and Leroy Sane left the club this summer. They have signed Luis Diaz from Liverpool, but lost Jamal Musiala to a serious injury during the Club World Cup. Bayern have also agreed a deal with PSV Eindhoven for the permanent transfer of Paul Wanner this week, which further weakens Kompany’s option in the attack.

The defending Bundesliga champions have tried to sign Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart. They had three bids rejected for the German forward. Stuttgart have completely closed the door for Woltemade’s departure this summer.

After missing out on Woltemade, Bayern have turned their attention to Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku. The French forward is not in Chelsea’s plans for the new season, and they are open to listening to offers for him.

According to several reports in Germany, Bayern had a loan bid rejected by Chelsea for Nkunku. The Bavarian club is open to signing Nkunku on a loan deal, but Chelsea and the player prefer a permanent transfer. Bayern continue to hold talks with Chelsea on finding the right formula to make this transfer happen.

RB Leipzig have joined Bayern in the race to sign Nkunku

Nkunku is not short of suitors, which makes things tricky for Bayern. According to The Athletic, RB Leipzig have stepped up their efforts to sign Nkunku. The talks between the two clubs have been ongoing regarding a permanent transfer for the 27-year-old forward.

The French international is open to joining Bayern, but he will not close the door to other options. Nkunku was eager to join Bayern in January. However, Chelsea’s excessive demands ensured Bayern never made an offer for him in the winter transfer window.

The recently crowned Club World Cup winners want close to €50 million for Nkunku. Considering the inconsistent form and injury problems for Nkunku over the last two seasons, Chelsea’s demands still look excessive. The move for Nkunku is likely to go down to the wire. Bayern will hope that Chelsea will soften their stance as they get near to the deadline day.

Signing another attacker is likely to be the only thing on Bayern’s plate for the rest of the transfer window. They are well covered in midfield and defense, which gives Kompany a stable platform to build on his successful debut season at the club. It has been an underwhelming summer for Bayern, but getting another quality forward in the next 10 days may do well to salvage the transfer window.
